Textile & Soft Goods Designer Job
Hours: Full-Time (Maternity Cover)
Locations: Kilmacanogue/ Avoca Mill


We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Textile & Soft Goods Designer to join our busy creative team at Avoca.

 Mainly based at Avoca HQ, Kilmacanogue, this position is a fantastic opportunity to also work at Ireland oldest working Mill in Avoca Village. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing woven and knitted soft goods, producing sketches and using CAD Pro Weave software to produce new designs.

 This opportunity is a maternity cover role so will be for approximately 10 months.


Design and generate original ideas for woven fabrics and soft goods for the Avoca own brand range. Develop designs and specifications and work with our mill and other suppliers to bring product from design through sampling and delivery.

We are looking for a strategic, organised, solutions-focused designer that enjoys all aspects of design projects from concept to creation and can work excellently as part of a wider creative team. You should also have an impeccable eye for detail, with strong technical and creative expertise.


•   Producing sketches and sample designs of woven fabrics at the Avoca Weaving Mill.

•   Producing designs for products for the Avoca Mill Range.

•   Producing designs and specifications for homewares and knitted accessories for the Avoca own brand range.

•   Using specialist CAD Pro Weave software to assist with designs.

•   Liaise with external suppliers to ensure deadlines are met.

•   Attending and exhibiting designs at trade fairs.

•   Presenting designs and samples to the wider design and buying teams.

•   Keeping up to date with fashion and textile design trends.



•   Degree/Diploma in Fashion/Textiles or similar.

•   Experience working with Excel and Adobe Creative suite.

•   Work experience within the textile / accessories design industry.

•   Full clean driving license essential

•   Applicants are required to present a good portfolio highlighting creative abilities.

•   Highly creative approach and flair for working in a dynamic environment.

•   Creative flair and artistic ability.

•   A good eye for colour, texture, fabric and pattern.

•   Excellent attention to detail.

•   An interest in fashion and textiles with understanding of trends and materials.

•   Understanding and experience in using different textile process and techniques.

•   Ability to work to deadlines and budget

•   Good Communications and team working skills.
