Avoca Village

Avoca Village

On the banks of the Avoca river, you’ll find the Avoca store, cafe and mill. This location is the birthplace of the Avoca experience, and the origin of the family’s company name. Dating from 1723, this very special Avoca location is home to the handweaving mill, Avoca Store, Cafe and a visitor centre which tells the story of the mill from the beginning. There are even third generation weavers to show you what goes into the making of an Avoca throw.

Self Service Cafe

Avoca Café at Our Mill

There is an inviting self-service café at our weaving mill offering a delicious range of Avoca favourites. There are homemade quiches and freshly prepared sandwiches, hearty soups and freshly baked sweet treats, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. On a sunny day, why not enjoy your refreshments on one of our picnic tables in the pretty garden, where you can take in the scenery and the babbling river. This really is a picture-perfect spot.

The Avoca Mill Tour

Our mill tour invites people to see first-hand where our throws, rugs, scarves, and more come from, and to witness them being made by hand. Visitors can chat with third-generation weavers to learn more about the craft and can find out the steps involved in the making of a famous Avoca throw. You can find out more about the process before your visit to our mill here.

We're delighted to say that our Avoca mill tours will be back up and running from 10th March! Our fantastic tour guides Jim and Allan are looking forward to welcoming our visitors and sharing our wonderful history, weaving processes, and lots more. Audio guides are now available in German, French, Spanish and Italian. With 2023 being the 300 years of our weaving mill, established in 1723, there is lots to talk about and celebrate this year.
