Description

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Technical Manager. Reporting to the General Manager with a dotted line to the Quality and Safety Director, this is a new, full-time permanent position.  Based at our central production facility in Co. Wicklow, the role involves supporting the production team to ensure processes and products meet agreed food safety and quality specifications, statutory and customer requirements.

Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the site HACCP/ food safety and quality management system to include coordinating the site HACCP/ food safety team, working with the site team to ensure the food safety and quality management system is implemented and maintained, reviewed at planned intervals and updated as necessary
  • Managing food safety processes and procedures to include prerequisite programmes, supplier control, etc. programmes, traceability system and ensuring appropriate records are maintained
  • Monitoring updates to food hygiene and safety legislation, industry codes of practice/ guidance and ensuring the food safety and quality management system is reviewed and updated to reflect such changes
  • Identifying best practice opportunities for managing the HACCP/ food safety and quality management system
  • Providing technical advice and support to the operations team to including supporting new product development
  • Ensuring the on-site team are trained to the required level in food safety, quality and health and safety through training needs analysis, development of an annual training plan, training co-ordination and delivery and ensuring training records are maintained up-to-date
  • Ongoing on-the-job training and coaching of the site team to ensure legislative and company standards in the areas of food safety and quality management are fully met
  • Monitoring food safety and quality compliance through finished product inspections, daily HACCP/ food safety and quality checks, food hygiene and safety inspections and audits
  • Managing the sampling and testing programmes, i.e. environmental monitoring programme, product sampling and testing programme, product shelf-life validation studies and maintenance of a documented sampling and testing programme
  • Management of food safety/ quality non-conformances and customer complaints to include thorough investigation of non-conformances, working with the operations team to identify and implement appropriate corrective/ preventive actions and ensuring appropriate documentation is maintained
  • Facilitation of inspections and audits by external/ statutory bodies and liaising with external bodies on food hygiene and safety matters
  • Reporting to senior management on food safety and quality performance
  • Development and maintenance of product specifications
  • Maintaining glass and hard plastic register and ensuring same is maintained up to date. Undertaking monthly glass and hard plastic inspections. 
Candidates must possess:

  • Industry recognised qualification to degree level in the area of food science/ food technology/ food safety/ environmental health. 
  • A minimum of 2-3 years experience working in a BRC food production environment in a technical/ quality capacity
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the company together with excellent communication (both verbal and written), presentation, consultative and influencing skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills together with strong analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities. You must be a team player with the ability to collaboratively work with available resources to bring optimal solutions.  Proven ability to achieve results while working independently and on own initiative
  • Commitment to achieving results and driving new initiatives forward is essential as isthe proven ability to successfully motivate others to achieve high standards in the areas of food safety and quality
